October Composition Competition

LEMISA Composition Competition 2025

We invite composers to submit original works for Brass and/or Wind Quintets, Sextets, Septets, or Octets.
Composers may choose to include a keyboard instrument (Piano, Harpsichord, or Organ) as part of the ensemble.

Competition Stipulations

• Style: Contemporary concert music for classical instrumentation. Idiomatic writing is essential.
• Eligibility: Open to all composers, regardless of age or experience.
• Originality: Submitted works must be original and unpublished.
  – They may not have received recognition in another competition.
  – They may not have had a debut performance elsewhere.
• Duration: Maximum of 8 minutes (either one movement or multiple short movements).
• Format: PDF score and MIDI file and/or audio mockup.

Submission Process

1. Make payment (details provided on registration).
2. A link to a dedicated Google Drive folder will be sent to you for uploading your materials.
3. Submit the following:
   – PDF score
   – MIDI and/or audio mockup

Prizes and Recognition

• Ten works will be selected for debut performance and recording.
• Winning composers will receive:
  – HD video and audio recording of their work.
  – Performance by established professional musicians and members of LEMISA (Cape Town).
• Feedback: All participants will receive written feedback from the panel, ensuring value for every entrant.
